What I think the quote mean is that if you can't stand up for yourself when you are little boy then you won't stand for himself when he grown. When they aren't standing up for themselves they won't stand up for loved ones. They won't stand up for material things or nothing at all. The person that doesn't stand up for them self then the are soft. That's in my opinion though so now disrespect.
